The Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) has called its 2nd Emergency Presidential Council Meeting, asserting that the Nagaland government’s decision to regularize medical officers and health workers appointed during the COVID-19 pandemic violates constitutional recruitment norms.

The meeting, set for 7 February at NSF Oking, comes after the expiry of an ultimatum issued to the state, following what the NSF describes as the “arbitrary and unconstitutional regularisation of COVID-era appointees.”

According to the communiqué, the federation reiterated its opposition to the regularization process, stating that it amounts to the “illegal regularization of COVID-19 appointees in violation of the constitutional mandate of the Nagaland Public Service Commission (NPSC) and the Nagaland Staff Selection Board (NSSB).”

Highlighting the gravity of the issue, the NSF said the matter has “far-reaching implications for the future of Naga youth and the sanctity of merit-based recruitment.”

It added that the Emergency Council would “take stock of the prevailing situation and decide upon further democratic measures deemed necessary.”

“This may be treated as most urgent,” the notice stated.

The communication was issued and signed by Kenilo Kent, General Secretary, NSF, and copies were forwarded to the Presidents of all Federating Units and subordinate bodies of the federation.
