The Chozuba Village Council, along with Chozubami Razuve Hoho, Chozubami Youth Association, Chozubami Women Society and Chozubami Students Union, has strongly condemned a hit and run incident at Chozuba village that claimed the life of a woman on February 1, 2026.

According to the village bodies, the incident occurred around 2 pm on National Highway 702A along the Chakhabama to Mokokchung road. The victim was identified as Rukuseno Shijoh, wife of Pusanu Shijoh. She reportedly died on the spot after being struck by a dumper truck.

The accused has been identified as Jahirul Islam, the driver of a dumper truck bearing registration number NL07A A1859, while Ajibur Uddin has been named as an accomplice. Based on initial interrogation and statements, the village bodies alleged that the accident was caused due to overspeeding and reckless driving under the influence of alcohol.

The incident reportedly involved two dumper trucks heading towards Kohima. It was alleged that the first dumper struck the victim without braking, while the second dumper abetted the act by encouraging the driver to flee from the scene. The village bodies stated that this rendered the second driver equally responsible for the death.

The Chozuba village community has demanded immediate and stringent action against all those involved to ensure justice for the victim and her family. It also expressed concern over the loss of innocent lives due to careless and alcohol influenced driving.

In addition, the village council and allied organisations have urged the concerned departments to immediately install road safety measures such as rumble strips, road signs, traffic signals and proper signage along the highway to prevent similar incidents in the future. They warned that failure to act promptly could lead to further loss of lives.
