44 delegates from Ladakh and Kerala, including students, teachers-in-charge, and faculty members from Nagaland University’s Medziphema Campus, met veteran Nagaland statesman Dr. S.C. Jamir on Saturday, February 7. A Padma Bhushan recipient, Dr. Jamir served as Chief Minister of Nagaland for four terms and as Governor of Maharashtra, Gujarat, Goa, and Odisha.

The meeting formed part of the Ashtalakshmi Darshan Youth Exchange Programme, an initiative by the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (MDoNER) and the North Eastern Council (NEC), Shillong. Fully sponsored by DoNER and NEC, the programme promotes “Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat” through national integration, cultural exchange, and mutual respect. Nagaland University, Medziphema Campus, hosts the visiting teams from February 1 to 14, 2026.
Delegates asked about leadership qualities and valuable lessons. Dr. Jamir emphasised honesty, vision, mission, and unwavering commitment. He encouraged students to think beyond their state, become global citizens, and adopt a broad mindset free from narrow communal or personal limitations.
He described the youth as ambassadors of their states and stressed that the future of their regions and the nation rests with them. He urged farsightedness, dedication to the greater good, and constant dignity, expressing concern over unruly behaviour in Parliament.
Sonam Gytso, a teacher-in-charge from the Ladakh team, praised Dr. Jamir’s focus on honesty, vision, commitment, and transcending regional boundaries. He noted that the interaction left delegates enriched, motivated, and aware of their ambassadorial role.
Dr. Aju T.G., from the Kerala team, highlighted Dr. Jamir’s inspiring presence, active lifestyle, and mental sharpness at 95. He said the statesman’s emphasis on competency, adaptability, integrity, fitness, discipline, balanced living, and continuous learning would guide delegates toward success in a competitive world.
