Nagaland University conferred Lifetime Achievement Awards on five eminent science academicians during the inaugural ceremony of the International Conference on Chemistry in Multidisciplinary Research (ICCMR–2026).
The awards were presented on February 18 at I Ihoshe Kinimi Hall, Lumami, as part of the three-day conference organised by the Department of Chemistry from February 18–20.

Nagaland University honours

The recipients of the Lifetime Achievement Awards are Prof AK Mallik, Prof VS Raja, Prof MA Quraishi, Prof M Indira Devi and Prof Nitin Chattopadhyay.

Prof AK Mallik of Punjabi University was recognised for his extensive contributions to materials chemistry, nanotechnology and surface science. Over a career spanning decades, he has guided numerous research scholars and led studies on nanomaterials, thin films and electrochemical sensors with applications in energy storage and environmental monitoring.

Prof. V.S. Raja from the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay was honoured for his internationally acknowledged work in corrosion science and engineering. His research has focused on corrosion mechanisms, protection strategies and failure analysis across power, chemical and transportation sectors, alongside active industry collaboration.

Prof MA Quraishi, formerly of IIT (BHU) Varanasi, was recognised for pioneering eco-friendly corrosion inhibitors and contributions to green chemistry. With over 380 publications and extensive research supervision, he has received multiple national and international honours, including fellowship of the Royal Society of Chemistry (UK).

Prof M Indira Devi, Senior Professor at Nagaland University, was acknowledged for her work in Physical Chemistry, particularly theoretical studies of lanthanide complexation and synthesis of lanthanide nanomaterials. She has also served as Dean, School of Sciences, and as Visitor Nominee from MHRD to Tripura University.

Prof Nitin Chattopadhyay, former Professor at Jadavpur University, was honoured for his pioneering research in photophysics, photochemistry, fluorescence sensing and biophysical chemistry. A fellow of multiple national science academies, he continues to contribute to interdisciplinary research as a CSIR Emeritus Scientist.

ICCMR–2026 brought together researchers and academicians from various institutions to deliberate on emerging areas in chemistry and multidisciplinary research. University officials described the awards as a recognition of sustained excellence and contributions that have significantly advanced chemical sciences in India and beyond.

The ceremony marked a highlight of the conference, underscoring Nagaland University’s engagement with leading scholars and its commitment to strengthening scientific research in the region.
