An eight-member team of the Nagaland Wrestling Association (NWA) has left for Imphal to take part in the 1st Northeast Indigenous Games scheduled from February 23 to 25.

The team is participating on the invitation of the All Manipur United Clubs Organization, with the event being held under the aegis of AMUCO and the Manipur Students Federation. During the Games, the Nagaland team will demonstrate and compete in Naga Wrestling, with participation expected from wrestlers from Manipur and other regions.

According to a press statement issued by NWA joint secretary Kuzhovesa Soho, the participation aims to strengthen ties between Nagaland and Manipur while promoting Naga Wrestling beyond the state. The statement also noted that Naga Wrestling has recently been recognised as a national medal event and was first included in national competition in Goa from January 12 to 14 this year. Efforts are underway to take the sport to the international level in future championships.

The NWA contingent is led by president Vivolie Kezo as team director, with the property secretary serving as team manager. Seyielhoukho Sechü is the referee. The wrestlers representing Nagaland are Süthito Rhakho in the 96 kg category, Khrükuzo Nyekha in the 90 kg category, Kedosie Nagi in the 85 kg category, and Seyiezhatuo Sano in the 70 kg category. Pitsali Sangtam is accompanying the team as driver.

The NWA has appealed to wrestling enthusiasts to support the team and extended its best wishes for a successful and fruitful tournament.
