MGM College Eco Club holds Essay and Art Competition on Water Conservation
The programme focused on highlighting the growing challenges of water scarcity despite the planet’s vast water resources. Organisers noted that rapid population growth, urbanisation and industrial expansion have placed increasing pressure on limited freshwater supplies, making conservation and sustainable management a critical priority. The event sought to encourage students to reflect on water as a shared and finite resource essential for sustainable development.

The competition witnessed enthusiastic participation, with students voluntarily presenting their ideas on water management through essays and artwork. In the art category, Piwoto V. Aye of Semester IV Sociology secured first place, followed by Kariben Longkumer of Semester IV Education in second position and Thupukeve Tsutso of Semester IV History in third. In the essay competition, Sweta Santosh of Semester IV Political Science won first place, Laxmi Kumari of Semester VI Commerce came second and Imtisangla Ao of Semester IV English secured third.

Participants used essays to outline the impacts of water scarcity and suggest practical conservation measures, while artworks conveyed strong visual messages on the importance of saving water. The organisers said the initiative aimed to nurture environmentally responsible citizens and encourage students to extend conservation awareness beyond the campus into the wider community.
