The appointment, made by NPP National President and Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma, is effective immediately. In his new role, Kikon will coordinate with state presidents and party office bearers, oversee inter-state political matters, and consult regularly with elected Members of Parliament, MLAs, and other representatives to ensure policy coherence and political alignment.

Kikon has also been tasked with designing and supervising political programs, consultations, conventions, and outreach initiatives to expand the party’s presence and influence in the region. All state units and functionaries have been directed to extend full cooperation to him.

The move comes as the NPP seeks to consolidate its strategy under the party’s vision of “One Northeast”, aiming for closer coordination among states and enhanced engagement with stakeholders and political parties across the region.

Kikon, a former member of the Nagaland Legislative Assembly from Bhandari constituency, had previously served as BJP national spokesperson and Prabhari (in-charge) for Mizoram before resigning from the party.
