Union Minister of State for Minority Affairs and Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying George Kurian concluded a two-day visit to Tuensang district on March 2, during which he held an interaction session with district officials and visited key institutions and project sites.

As part of his visit, the Union Minister convened an interaction session with heads of offices under Tuensang district at the Deputy Commissioner’s Conference Hall, Tuensang, on March 2. Deputy Commissioner, Tuensang, Lithrongla Tongpi Rutsa, in her welcome address, expressed sincere gratitude to the Union Minister on behalf of the people of Tuensang. An overview profile of Tuensang district was presented through a PowerPoint presentation by ADC Tuensang, Shelly Katiry.

During the interaction, the Union Minister discussed key issues with district officers, including infant mortality rate, immunisation, Public Distribution System, skill development, nutrition, PM Kisan, PMAY-G, Self Help Groups, the education system and National Highway 202. He stated that the Prime Minister of India is deeply committed to the development of the Northeast region and said the central government is prepared to assist the state government through infrastructure development and financial support for the welfare of the people. He also appreciated the efforts of district officers and urged them to continue working with sincerity and dedication for the overall development of the district.

Earlier in the day, the Union Minister visited St John Higher Secondary School, Tuensang, where he interacted with students.

George Kurian was on a two-day visit to Tuensang from March 1 to 2. During his stay, he visited the Fish Farm at Thimka under Tuensang village and interacted with fish farmers. During the interaction, Mhomo Murry, Divisional Forest Officer, Tuensang, highlighted key challenges faced by the department, including poor road connectivity, infrastructure gaps and the need for additional fishery ponds to improve yield. He also informed that there are more than 80 marginal fish farmers in and around the Thimka Fish Farm.

The Union Minister inspected the fishery ponds and hatchery tanks at the farm. He also visited District Hospital Tuensang and Parade Ground Tuensang as part of his district tour.

In the evening, the Union Minister held an interaction with tribal leaders, representatives of civil society organisations and members of the BJP party unit from Tuensang district, concluding his official engagements in the district.
