International Women’s Day was celebrated at I. Ihoshe Kinimi Hall, Nagaland University, Lumami on March 7. The programme was organised by the Nagaland University Students’ Union, Lumami (NUSU-L) under the theme “Give to Gain,” inspired by a quote from Michelle Obama, “No one will do it for you, so lift as you climb.” The event was chaired by Moatemsu R. Ao from the Department of Anthropology.

The programme began with an invocation by Pranay Prem Sharma from the Music Team of the Eastern Nagaland University Students’ Union, followed by a special presentation titled “Heralding Women’s Day” by Chumpo Kings. The welcome address was delivered by Kivini H. Kinimi, Women Coordinator of NUSU-L, who highlighted the importance of recognising the achievements and contributions of women in society.
A solo musical performance by Phuton Konyak from the Department of Geography added a cultural element to the celebration.
Guest speaker Angunuo, Deputy Registrar (Finance), Nagaland University, emphasised that women play vital roles as entrepreneurs, leaders and financial managers, and that educating women uplifts entire generations. She stated that gender equality should be a shared responsibility between men and women and encouraged efforts to challenge societal stereotypes.
The programme also featured creative presentations titled “Shero of Lens” and “Bro Code: A Message of Appreciation.” An Award Fiesta conducted by B. Liken Phom, Vice President of NUSU-L, recognised the contributions and achievements of women.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Tiakumla, Magazine Secretary of NUSU-L, followed by a benediction by Thsazibi Y. Sangtam. Light refreshments were served to the attendees.
