NSCW, district administration facilitate platform for women to raise grievances
The Mahila Jan Sunwai (Public Hearing) was organized today at the Conference Hall of the Deputy Commissioner’s Office, Mokokchung. The programme was conducted by the Nagaland State Commission for Women in collaboration with the District Administration, District Hub for Empowerment of Women, and Sakhi One Stop Centre, Mokokchung, under the aegis of the National Commission for Women.

The programme commenced with a prayer by Nukshinaro, Gender Specialist, invoking blessings for the successful conduct of the event.
The welcome address was delivered by Moamenla Longkumer, District Mission Coordinator, Mission Shakti, who highlighted the importance of providing a platform for women to voice their concerns and seek assistance through the Mahila Jan Sunwai.
Delivering the keynote address, Ajit Kumar Verma, IAS, Deputy Commissioner of Mokokchung, emphasized the need for collective efforts from government departments, civil society, and community leaders to ensure the safety, dignity, and empowerment of women. He reiterated the District Administration’s commitment to strengthening support systems and ensuring that women have access to justice and welfare services.
A PowerPoint presentation was delivered by Kum. Wangshinaro, Centre Administrator, Sakhi One Stop Centre, Mokokchung, outlining the services provided to women affected by violence, including legal aid, medical assistance, psychosocial counselling, and temporary shelter. The presentation also highlighted the Centre’s role in facilitating coordinated support through various government departments and stakeholders.
The Jan Sunwai session (public hearing) was chaired by W. Nginyeih Konyak, Chairperson, Nagaland State Commission for Women. During the session, women from different parts of the district were given the opportunity to present their grievances and concerns directly before the Commission. The Commission assured that the issues and cases raised would be examined thoroughly and necessary steps taken to ensure speedy delivery of justice and support for the affected individuals.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by M. Ajungla Longchar, Case Worker, Sakhi One Stop Centre, Mokokchung, who expressed gratitude to all dignitaries, officials, participants, and the organizing teams for their cooperation and support in making the programme successful.
The Mahila Jan Sunwai serves as an important platform to strengthen mechanisms for addressing issues related to women and to promote awareness about available support services, reaffirming the collective commitment to women’s empowerment and protection in the district.
