The Chakhroma Youth Organisation (CYO) has issued a banishment order against three Maova Village leaders in the aftermath of a violent incident on February 13, 2026, in which Maova villagers “had physically assaulted Chakhroma Public Organisation (CPO) President and his colleagues and grievously injured its volunteers.”
According to the CYO office, an ultimatum had previously been issued “to produce the persons responsible for the premeditated attack and to come to terms for a peaceful solution among Maova Village and CPO.” The order added that “on the request of Maova Village, CPO had provided ample opportunities to Maova Village leaders on numerous occasions to settle the issue amicably. However, till date Maova village leaders had failed to come to terms with CPO for a peaceful solution.”
The organisation cited Angami Customary Law and Tradition, referencing Point No 04 of the Chakhroma standing resolution adopted on April 15, 1945 at Tsiepama Village, which states: “Any person who inflicts any physical assault to any of the member of Chakhroma shall not be allowed to live in Chakhroma area.”
Further, the CYO referred to the declaration signed on 31 July 1995 at Medziphema Town, noting that “in the event of failure to abide by the 1995 declaration by any Kuki individual, group or villages, the violators shall be expelled from the area in the interest of peace and tranquility and to avoid any misunderstanding.”
Taking these into account, the CYO announced the banishment of Sutminal Vaiphei, Chairman, Maova Village Council, Seiboi Changsan, Head GB, and Paoboi Changsan, Ex-Chairman, stating that the three were responsible for “instigating their youths for the premeditated attack on the CPO leaders and CYO volunteers and subsequently failing to come to an amicable solution.”
The order directs the banned individuals “to leave Chakhroma jurisdiction within thirty (30) days from the date of this order,” and warns that “in the event of failure to comply and leave Chakhroma Area within the stipulated period, they shall be held solely responsible for their own safety and welfare if any untoward incident befall upon them.”
The banishment order was issued by the Information & Publicity Wing of the Chakhroma Youth Organisation.
