Nagaland unit leaders say decision taken without consultation; may refrain from campaigning

The announcement was made in Dimapur in the presence of NPP National Vice President Vevoyi Wideo and National Youth President Nickey Nongkhlaw.
Earlier in the day, NPP legislators and state unit leaders expressing dissatisfaction over the issuance of the party ticket in a press briefing, stating that the decision was taken “without consultation” with the state unit.
NPP MLA Nuklutoshi said the process was not followed properly. “First, it must be recommended from the district unit to the state, and then to the Central Election Committee. The CEC should also know the reality of the constituency,” he said.
He added that the state unit came to know about the decision only through media reports. “There is no misunderstanding, but since we saw it only through the media, we were shocked,” he said.
Citing the oppositionless government in Nagaland, Nuklutoshi said the party should not have fielded a candidate. He further stated that the state unit would write to the party leadership expressing its discontent and may refrain from campaigning for the candidate.

NPP Nagaland unit president Nyamnei Konyak also questioned the process, stating that primary membership and recommendations from the Assembly Constituency unit are mandatory for ticket seekers.
“The AC party office bearers must recommend, which should be sent to the district and then to the state. As president, I did not receive anything,” Konyak said. He also echoed the sentiment of maintaining the spirit of an oppositionless government and not contesting the election.
The NPP’s national leadership could not provide a response at the time of filing this report and indicated that a clear statement would be issued at an appropriate time.
