Several policy-related issues, including the Nagaland Liquor Total Prohibition (NLTP) Act, oil exploration, and public utility reforms, were discussed during the general discussion on the State Budget 2026–27 in the Nagaland Legislative Assembly.
Advisor for Food & Civil Supplies and Legal Metrology, K. T. Sukhalu, called for an open and informed discussion on the NLTP Act, 1989, stating that its effectiveness has been limited in curbing alcohol consumption. He noted that alcohol remains accessible and often unsafe due to adulteration, leading to social and health concerns.
He also suggested that the State consider oil and gas exploration as a potential avenue for revenue generation, urging the Government to initiate necessary steps in coordination with the concerned authorities.
Sukhalu further highlighted the need for stronger regulatory compliance in public utilities, stating that improved payment discipline for services such as electricity and water is essential for sustaining public infrastructure.
