The Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA) has cautioned the public against the circulation of a misleading weather advisory graphic on social media that inaccurately represents official information.

In a press release issued on March 30, the NSDMA under the Home Department stated that a graphic titled “Nagaland Weather Advisory: March 25-29” has been widely shared using its data but with an incorrectly generated district map. The NSDMA noted that while the weather information in the post appears to be sourced from official inputs, the visual representation is inaccurate and misleading.

“The map shown in the circulated graphic are inaccurate and does not reflect the official assessment or communication issued by NSDMA, Home Department,” the release stated.

The NSDMA warned that the circulation of altered or unofficial weather-related information in its name constitutes misinformation and may create confusion regarding risk areas and public safety preparedness. It urged citizens to exercise caution and refrain from creating, sharing, or forwarding unverified materials.

“Citizens are therefore advised to exercise due caution and refrain from creating, sharing, or forwarding any such unverified materials, and to rely only on official advisories and updates,” it stated.

For accurate and real-time updates, the NSDMA has encouraged the public to download and use the Safer Nagaland App.
