SIT formed to probe death in Longkhum violence

Police action continued across the 28-Koridang Assembly Constituency on polling day, with additional arrests and detentions reported in connection with recent pre-poll violence and electoral offences.

In Mangmetong, four more individuals were detained in connection with the destruction of property during the pre-poll violence reported on April 6. According to SP Mokokchung, vehicles belonging to supporters of an independent candidate were damaged during the incident.

In a separate development, two more persons were arrested in Longkhum village in connection with the violence that occurred on April 5 and 6, taking the total number of arrests to 18 so far. Police have constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT), headed by the Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO), to investigate the death of Imrongsungba Imchen, who succumbed to injuries sustained during the violence.

Meanwhile, eight women were detained outside polling stations on April 9 for allegedly carrying identity cards and voter slips that did not belong to them.
