Resolves to act as watchdog on Foothills Road upgrade; seeks clarity on Rs 430.77 crore approval
The Nagaland Foothills Road Coordination Committee (NFHRCC) has decided to keep its proposed phase-wise agitation in abeyance following a consultative meeting with stakeholders and apex tribal bodies held in Dimapur on Tuesday.
According to a statement issued by its Media Cell, the decision was taken during a meeting attended by Dimapur-based tribal hohos and representatives of the Nagaland Apex Tribal Hohos at Hotel Saramati.
The NFHRCC stated that the agitation, which was scheduled to commence from April 15, has been put on hold “for the time being” following a request from the apex tribal hohos.
The meeting, which discussed matters related to the proposed upgradation of the Nagaland Foothills Road to a two-lane national highway, also resolved that the NFHRCC would continue to act as a “watchdog” over the project, particularly in view of the no-objection certificate (NOC) issued by the apex tribal bodies.
Further, the committee urged the Government of Nagaland to publicly clarify the revised administrative approval amounting to Rs 430.77 crore, stating that the fund was meant solely for the construction of the Foothills Road.
While suspending the agitation for now, the NFHRCC cautioned that it may resume its protest if the government fails to “fulfill or satisfy the aspiration of the Naga public.”
