The Vegetable Collection Centre and Seed Bank at Nsong under Tening Block were inaugurated by Deputy Commissioner Peren, Hiazu Meru, on Wednesday at the Vegetable Collection Centre near the Pro Rural Office, Nsong Town.

In his address, Meru lauded the efforts of Pro Rural and the local community, stating that such initiatives would improve market access for farmers and promote self-reliance in the agriculture sector.

Prof. Dr Akali Sema, who attended as Guest of Honour, stressed the importance of preserving indigenous s eeds and promoting agricultural sustainability.

Delivering the keynote address, Pro Rural Director Paul Lokho emphasised the importance of farmer collectives and sustainable farming practices. CEO of FPO Nsong Village, Joshila Newme, presented the activities of the Farmer Producer Organisation.

Kanzeirang of Nsong Town Council, in the welcome address, highlighted the significance of the initiative in strengthening the livelihoods of local farmers.

Short speeches were also delivered by EAC Ihoilung Chuilo, Lesehu Meru, and Vikhuli Achumi, who appreciated the initiative and its impact on rural livelihoods.

The programme featured a folk dance by Nsong Village Youth and was chaired by Tolivi N. Sumi, Environment Coordinator, Pro Rural.

Later, the Seed Bank was inaugurated by Prof. Dr Akali Sema. The event also included an exhibition and sale of traditional seeds and vegetables, followed by a community lunch.
