Discusses ILP system, drug abuse and mental health concerns

The Kohima Village Students’ Union (KVSU) organised the 1st Joint Coordination Meeting of Kohima-based tribal students’ bodies on April 22 at KVC Hall, Kohima Village, marking a significant step towards fostering unity and collaboration among various student communities in Kohima.

The meeting witnessed participation of representatives from the students’ bodies of Phom, Pochury, Kuki, Ao, Lotha, Sumi, Tikhir, Yimkhiung, Sangtam, Zeliang, Rengma, Chang, Mao, Khiamniungan and Konyak, along with representatives from the Gorkha Students’ Union and Northern Angami Students’ Union.

During the meeting, KVSU highlighted its key initiatives and activities, including Night School programmes across the four khels, literary events, and various educational and community-oriented programmes undertaken for the welfare of students.

The gathering served as an important platform where leaders from different tribal student bodies discussed key issues concerning the student community.

Representatives raised concerns regarding the present Inner Line Permit (ILP) system, drug abuse, mental health issues, and the importance of maintaining peace and harmony among Naga communities.

The meeting also emphasized unity among diverse communities, reinforcing the idea that despite differences, all share a common vision for progress, cooperation and mutual understanding.

It was clarified that the initiative is not intended to form a new union, but to create a platform for dialogue, coordination and continued engagement among student leaders.

KVSU president Khriesaneikuo Kire hig hlighted the importance of collective responsibility in guiding and empowering the younger generation.

The programme was chaired by Kiyakhrienuo Solo, General Secretary, KVSU, while the vote of thanks was proposed by Vizovolie Rame, Vice President, KVSU.
