The Eastern Flank of the NSCN/GPRN has alleged that four of its cadres were “gunned down savagely and inhumanely” in an incident at Hongbei Village on March 28, 2026, and has demanded the public release of an inquiry report into the incident.
In a press statement issued on May 5, 2026, the group stated that “since the dawn of the nineteenth century, the Kukis have been gradually occupying our land aggressively,” and further alleged “the abetment of the Government of India (Gol) whose sole aim is to suppress our Naga political movement by using the Kukis as proxy.”
It also claimed that there was “aggression of the Kukis against the Nagas, particularly in Southern Nagalim with the objective of carving out a Kuki homeland which is being reinforced by the Indian machinery in trying to exterminate our political movement.”
The statement said that “our cadres were dispatched on a mission for our beloved national cause, for such an act of treachery by the Gol and the Kukis cannot be compromised and tolerated in any manner.”
The group alleged that on the night of March 28, 2026, “four of our patriotic cadres were gunned down savagely and inhumanely led by Lieut. Starling and 2nd Lieut. Mathotmi Shimray (NSCN/GPRN) at Hongbei Village,” adding that the incident was “unfathomable and cannot be erased from our memory.”
“The sacrifice of our dedicated cadres who served the Naga nation in true spirit shall not go in vain until truth prevails,” the statement said.
The NSCN/GPRN Eastern Flank also referred to earlier internal communications, stating that on March 29, 2026, “the Director of PIB, Naga Army, NSCN/GPRN issued a statement that the responsible culprits would be penalized as per NARR.”
It further said that on March 30, 2026, “the Yaruiwo of NSCN/GPRN constituted an inquiry committee consisting of six members out of which four are Members of Collective Leadership, one kilonser and one secretary,” and that the committee was directed to submit its report by April 10, 2026.
However, the group alleged that “in spite of the official orders issued by the highest authority, nothing is forthcoming with no positive result on the inquiry.”
“The delay in disclosing the inquiry report is highly questionable and suspicious that reeks of high treason by anti-Naga pseudo leaders,” it stated.
The Eastern Flank demanded that “the report be made public and reveal the names and authorities who ordered Lieutenant Starling of Lairam Village and 2nd Lieutenant Mathotmi Shimray of Sihai Khunou village to execute our cadres without any provocation or reason.”
It warned that “failure to clarify and deliver justice with the highest penalty to the culprits will lead to irreversible consequences, the responsibility of which will solely lie on the concerned authorities.”
