Akashvani Mokokchung in collaboration with Queen Mary Higher Secondary School organised a marathon race on May 8 to commemorate 90 years of Akashvani under the theme “Run for Health, Unity & Discipline.”

A total of 108 students, comprising boys and girls, participated in the event. Winners in both categories were awarded cash prizes, certificates and medals, while participation certificates were presented to all runners.

Addressing the programme, Vice Principal Rev. Sr. Flowerlit said the theme “Run for Health, Unity & Discipline” reflects that education extends beyond classrooms and is nurtured through discipline, physical fitness, unity and determination.

She described the marathon as “a beautiful initiative that encourages healthy living while strengthening the spirit of togetherness amongst us.” Commemorating the 90-year journey of Akashvani, she acknowledged its role in connecting people and spreading awareness through information and communication.

Delivering the words of appreciation, Habemo Ngullie, HOP/PEX, Akashvani Mokokchung, expressed gratitude to the school authorities, organisers, teachers and volunteers for ensuring the success of the programme.

“For nine decades, Akashvani has been a trusted voice informing, educating and inspiring generations,” he said, adding that the marathon also aimed to promote health, unity and discipline among the people.

He further congratulated all participants for displaying energy, determination and sportsmanship throughout the event.

In the boys’ category, Nungshimaong Longkumer secured first position, followed by Tarenkaba in second place and Kichar Kichu in third. In the girls’ category, Opanglemla Jamir secured first place, while Sentili Pamei and Shongmou Lam finished second and third respectively.

The programme was chaired by Assistant Teacher Anita Rai, while Rev. Sr. Elizabeth, Headmistress of QMHSS, delivered the invocation.
