Ao Senden has strongly condemned the sexual crime against a minor girl in Dimapur and called for a speedy investigation and exemplary punishment for those found guilty.
In a statement issued by Marsanen Imsong, President Ao Senden, and Imtipokyim, General Secretary, the apex Ao tribal body named the accused as O Watimeren Jamir, Tsuktimongba, and Akangkokba, and described the act as a “vile act,” stating that there was no place in society for such conduct, particularly against a vulnerable child.
The organisation urged law enforcement agencies to ensure that all those responsible are brought to justice, irrespective of their status or position.
“The law enforcing agency must accord speedy exemplary punishment to all the guilty accused persons irrespective of status and position in life,” the statement said.
Ao Senden also expressed solidarity with the victim and her family, praying that the incident would not leave a lasting scar on the child’s life.
It further expressed hope that the victim would be able to rebuild her life and look forward to a brighter future.
Earlier, Watsü Mungdang, Ao Lanur Telongjem, and the Ao Students’ Conference (AKM) had also condemned the incident.
GB Union seeks removal of Residency colony GB after arrest; woman arrested for revealing minor victim’s identity
The GB Union Dimapur Sadar has sought the immediate revocation of the appointment of the GB of Residency Colony, Dimapur, following his arrest as the third accused in a ‘minor rape case’.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the union expressed shock over the arrest of Akangkokba Ao, stating that it was “beyond our imagination how a guardian and protector of the citizens can become the perpetrator of such heinous crime.”
The union informed that it has cancelled Akangkokba Ao’s membership from the GB Union Dimapur Sadar with immediate effect.
It also said that it has apprised the Deputy Commissioner, Dimapur, to revoke or cancel his appointment order as GB to pave the way for a thorough investigation and ensure appropriate action under the law.
The statement was issued by GB Union Dimapur Sadar president W Kholie Kapfo and general secretary T Onen Jamir.
Meanwhile, according to reports, another arrest has been made in connection with the case.
NNN reported that Bendangjungla, sister of O Watimeren Jamir, was arrested under Section 23 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act for allegedly revealing the identity of the minor victim. She is reportedly a government school teacher.
Police are also investigating the male individual featured in a video related to the case that circulated on social media.
