The Forum for Naga Reconciliation (FNR) has condemned the killing of six Naga villagers whose bodies were recovered in Kangpokpi district on June 10, describing the incident as a “gruesome and inhumane” act of violence and calling for justice and renewed dialogue between Nagas and Kukis.
In a statement, FNR said it was “deeply saddened” by the news of the six Naga brothers whose dismembered bodies were retrieved by state security forces.
“FNR denounces such gruesome and inhumane acts of violence,” it stated.
The forum noted that the release of 14 Kukis in Senapati on June 9, secured through the efforts of the United Naga Council, its federating tribe units, ANSAM and the Naga Women Union, had raised hopes that the six Nagas would also be released.
“Expectations were raised that this would be followed with a reciprocal act of releasing the 6 Nagas.
Any such expectations were only met with grief,” the statement said.

Expressing condolences to the bereaved families and the wider community, FNR said, “We weep and mourn with you in this hour of darkness.”
The organisation urged the Government of Manipur to ensure an impartial investigation into the killings.
“As a forum that believes in values of justice, FNR urges the Government of Manipur to uphold the rule of law and ensure an impartial investigation for justice to be delivered at the earliest time,” it stated.
FNR also voiced concern over what it described as a spiralling cycle of violence and appealed to leaders from both communities to work towards peace.
“The FNR is extremely concerned by the spiraling cycle of violence. We call upon responsible Kuki and Naga leaders to immediately end the violence and forge a way where the root differences are identified and addressed through dialogue,” the statement added.
