Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Zunheboto, under Nagaland University, has intensified the nationwide “Khet Bachao Abhiyan” campaign across villages in Zunheboto district to promote sustainable farming and soil health management.

Over 1,800 farmers reached under KVK Zunheboto’s Khet Bachao campaign

The month-long campaign, launched by the Government of India under the theme “Healthy Soil, Healthy Crop, Prosperous Farmer”, aims to encourage balanced fertilizer use, improve soil health, promote natural farming and reduce dependence on chemical inputs.

As part of the campaign, KVK teams have been conducting awareness programmes, field demonstrations and interactions with farmers on integrated nutrient management, water conservation, organic and natural farming practices, and climate-resilient agriculture. Farmers have also been sensitised on the use of green manure, organic inputs and bio-fertilisers.

Speaking during a Sarpanch Sammelan, Principal Scientist and Head of KVK Zunheboto, Dr. Rakesh Kumar Chaurasia, said the campaign is “more than an awareness campaign” and described it as “a collective call to action for farmers, village institutions and youth to safeguard agriculture and ensure long-term food security.”

He emphasised that sustainable and profitable farming systems supported by scientific knowledge and community participation are essential for rural prosperity.

So far, the KVK has covered 16 villages through awareness programmes, field demonstrations and input distribution activities. More than 1,800 farmers have benefited from the campaign.
