The Department of Zoology, Kohima Science College, Jotsoma, in collaboration with the Naga Biodiversity Collective, organised a three-day state-level workshop on Science Writing and Communication from June 10 to 12 to strengthen scientific reporting and publication skills among students, researchers and lecturers.

The workshop aimed to address the gap in scientific publications from the region and equip participants with skills in research writing, science communication and media engagement.

Workshop coordinator Liavirhii Movi highlighted the untapped research potential of Naga youth and stressed the importance of translating scientific knowledge into impactful publications.

Technical sessions were led by Dr. Priya Tamma, Associate Professor at Azim Premji University, Bengaluru, who guided participants on research paper writing, the IMRaD format, effective data presentation and scientific communication. She also emphasised the importance of clear writing, logical organisation of ideas and accessible visual presentation of research findings.

Writer and journalist Easterine Kire Krocha conducted sessions on publishing, manuscript development and journalism. She encouraged participants to produce content rooted in local realities and indigenous experiences. Participants also gained hands-on experience through mock interviews and news report writing exercises.

At the valedictory programme, Dean of Sciences, Prof. Limatemjen, urged participants to apply their newly acquired skills to improve the quality of scientific literature emerging from Nagaland. Certificates were distributed to all participants.
