The alleged statement attributed to Rev. Puni, MCL, NSCN/GPRN, during the Tenyimia National Workers’ Meeting held on 25 June at Bliss Hotel, Chümoukedima, deserves the strongest condemnation from every right-thinking Angami Naga. According to those present at the meeting, Rev. Puni allegedly claimed that Angami’s Kehimia (Barabasti) had procured 30 AK-47 rifles and supplied them to Kuki groups involved in the ongoing Manipur conflict, and further alleged that these very weapons were being used to kill Nagas.

If such a statement was indeed made, it is not merely an irresponsible remark but a highly inflammatory allegation directed against an entire community without any publicly known evidence. Such accusations strike at the very foundation of Naga unity and have the potential to create mistrust, suspicion, and hostility among Naga tribes.

The Angami community has consistently stood at the forefront of the Naga political movement and has made immense sacrifices for the Naga cause. To implicate Angamis in assisting forces allegedly working against Naga interests is an accusation of the gravest nature. Such a charge cannot be made casually, recklessly, or on the basis of hearsay. The burden of proof lies entirely on the person making the allegation who is a Kacha Naga Mao, it is also recalled that Angami would not support the Mao for their previous records.

What makes the matter even more disturbing is that the alleged statement was reportedly made by a Reverend and senior functionary who is expected to uphold truth, moral responsibility, and reconciliation. Religious leaders carry a special obligation to promote peace and unity, not to advance claims that may deepen divisions among the Naga people unless supported by clear and verifiable facts.

Equally concerning is the apparent silence that followed. Senior leaders reportedly present at the meeting did not publicly demand evidence or seek clarification regarding such a serious allegation. The continued silence of concerned leaders and organizations has only intensified public concern and raised legitimate questions regarding their position on the matter. Even the Apex Body APO, AYO, is silent in this issue the continued silence of concerned organizations and leaders has only deepened public concern and speculation. It is humbly made know that clarification by the Apex body be made known in the local Media so that confusion is erased.

The issue before the Naga people today is simple: either credible evidence exists to support the allegation, or it does not. If evidence exists, it should be produced before the public and the appropriate authorities. If no such evidence exists, then the allegation must be viewed as unfounded and highly prejudicial to the reputation of the Angami community.

The NSCN/GPRN leadership must therefore immediately intervene and institute an independent and impartial inquiry into the matter. The truth must be established without delay. Should it be found that the allegation was made without factual basis, appropriate disciplinary action must follow in accordance with organizational principles and established norms of accountability.

No individual, regardless of rank, position, or influence, should be allowed to make serious allegations against any Naga community without proof. The Naga national movement cannot be built on rumours, insinuations, or tribal prejudice. It can survive only on truth, mutual respect, accountability, and unity.

The Angami people, like all Naga tribes, deserve fairness and justice. Their name and reputation must not be tarnished by unsubstantiated allegations. The time has come for the truth to be established and for those responsible for making or spreading baseless accusations to be held accountable.
