The Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA) has intensified relief operations across monsoon-affected districts, with the Indian Air Force (IAF) and the State Government helicopter evacuating 189 stranded passengers from the road-isolated districts of Mon and Longleng over the past two days.
According to the NSDMA, ongoing road disruptions prompted the requisition of IAF air support to evacuate stranded passengers and airlift essential relief supplies. On July 23 and 24, the IAF evacuated a total of 148 passengers, including 43 from Mon district and 105 from Longleng district. The State Government helicopter, requisitioned by the district administration through the Nagaland State Transport (NST), evacuated an additional 41 passengers from Mon district.

Those evacuated included students and candidates appearing for the NPSC Combined Education Services Examination (CESE), who were unable to travel due to damaged road connectivity.
The air operations also transported relief consignments comprising food supplies arranged by the NSDMA through the Department of Food and Civil Supplies, medical kits and clothing contributed by the Konyak Students’ Union, Kohima, and additional relief materials mobilised through the DonateKart Foundation for distribution in affected areas. The NSDMA said the airlifting of passengers and relief supplies would continue as required.
Meanwhile, relief operations have also been stepped up on the ground. A mini truck carrying relief materials was dispatched from Mokokchung to Tuli, followed by a second consignment to support relief efforts in affected areas. Relief materials were also delivered to Patizung Ward, while ration supplies were distributed to stranded and displaced families in Changtongya.
The NSDMA said district authorities have also begun disbursing financial assistance to affected households. In Wokha, the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) provided Emergency Relief Fund (ERF) assistance to families whose houses and retaining walls were damaged by landslides.
In Shamator, Deputy Commissioner and DDMA Chairman Arikumba handed over immediate relief assistance to two beneficiaries whose houses were damaged by landslides, while in Zunheboto, DDMA distributed ERF assistance to five affected families. The assistance was handed over by Deputy Commissioner and DDMA Chairman Dharam Raj, IAS.
The NSDMA further stated that financial assistance has been released to all districts for road and debris clearance in disaster-hit areas.
The authority said it continues to monitor the evolving monsoon situation in coordination with District Disaster Management Authorities, the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), line departments and district administrations. Damage assessment, restoration of essential services, road clearance and relief distribution are being carried out on priority to support affected communities.
