The Ao Kaketshir Mungdang (AKM) has strongly condemned the reported sexual assault of a seven-year-old girl in Longkhum village and called for a swift and time-bound investigation into the case.
In a press release, AKM described the alleged crime as “a barbaric and inhuman” act and said it was “an unforgivable attack on the innocence of a child and a stain on our society.”
AKM demanded that all concerned authorities ensure a swift, impartial and time-bound investigation into the case. It further stated that the accused, Nungshisajung Ani, should be awarded the maximum punishment prescribed under law if convicted by the court.
“Crimes against children must be dealt with firmly and without delay,” the AKM stated.
The AKM also expressed solidarity with the child and her family and urged the public to respect the victim’s privacy and dignity while allowing the legal process to proceed without interference.
Calling for collective action against crimes targeting women and children, the AKM urged village authorities, community leaders, youth organisations and citizens to unite in safeguarding children and ensuring their rights, dignity and safety.
AKM reaffirmed its commitment to protecting children and ensuring that justice prevails.
