The District Child Protection Unit (DCPU), Mokokchung, observed World Day against Trafficking in Persons under the theme “Trapped behind the Scam” at Police Station-I on Thursday.
Organised with Police Station-I and the Women Police Station, the programme featured an introductory remark by District Child Protection Officer Samuel Kapu, while T. Asula Imsong served as resource person.
Imsong highlighted the threat of human trafficking through fraudulent job offers, fake online schemes and deceptive recruitment practices. She stressed the need for awareness, vigilance and coordinated efforts to prevent trafficking.
She also emphasised educating children and young people to recognise warning signs and report suspicious activities.
ASI Limawati urged participants to remain alert to online scams and false promises that could lead to exploitation.
The observance reaffirmed the DCPU’s commitment to protecting individual rights and dignity through awareness, prevention and inter-departmental coordination.
The programme concluded with a call for collective action by government agencies, civil society, educational institutions and the public to combat trafficking.
DCPU staff, Child Helpline personnel, police personnel and Child Welfare Committee members attended the programme.
