SDFA to select promising players for upcoming Dr T Ao Football Tournament
The 4th Metümnyo Festival Football Tournament, organised by Sangphur Village Students Union in association with Shamator District Football Association (SDFA) and sponsored by the Department of Youth Resources and Sports, Government of Nagaland, commenced on August 4 at Sangphur.
The tournament was inaugurated by Athrong Yimkhiung, SDO (Civil), Shamator, who thanked the organisers for providing a platform for young football aspirants. He expressed hope that players would progress to higher levels under the guidance of SDFA.
Yimkhiung said talent alone cannot ensure success in sports and stressed the importance of hard work, sacrifice and proper coaching.
SDFA Vice President Solumba appreciated the organisers and informed that outstanding players would be selected for the Shamator district team for the upcoming Inter-District Dr T. Ao Football Tournament in Mokokchung from October 12 to 30.
He urged players to maintain discipline and uphold the spirit of the game. Earlier, Shokheamong, President of Sangphur Village Students Union, delivered the welcome address, while Rev. Z. Thsankiu, Pastor of Sangphur Village Baptist Church, offered the dedication prayer.
