Subject: Representation seeking immediate state intervention for restoration and reinforcement of NH-2 along the Mokokchung–Tzudikong stretch.
Respected Sir/Madam,
I am writing to bring to your urgent attention the catastrophic road damage and connectivity crisis along NH 2, specifically impacting the critical Mokokchung to Tzudikong (Tuli sub-division) stretch.
The recent spell of torrential monsoon downpours triggered landslides, severe land subsidence, and flash flooding across Tuli sub-division and surrounding areas. Major stretches, where significant portions of the highway have been swept away or rendered completely impassable.
NH-2 serves as the primary arterial link connecting northern Nagaland to Assam via Tzudikong/Tuli. It is the vital trade route through which essential goods, food grains, fuel, and medical supplies reach Mokokchung, Tuensang, Longleng, and Zunheboto districts. The prolonged disruption of heavy vehicle movement along this corridor risks severe supply chain failures, commodity shortages, and severe price inflation across multiple districts.
The road blockage is also severely affecting the education of students from the region. Many students who are seeking admission to colleges, universities, and other institutions outside their immediate areas are facing serious difficulties in commuting due to the disruption of road connectivity. The uncertainty and lack of reliable transportation may cause them to miss important academic deadlines and opportunities. Ensuring the restoration of this vital road link is therefore also essential for safeguarding the educational aspirations and future prospects of our students.
The disruption further jeopardizes patient transfers and emergency medical services. With key local health facilities like the Community Health Centre (CHC) in Changtongya and Tuli also facing monsoon impacts, critical patient referrals from the region to higher healthcare facilities depend entirely on a fully restored NH 2.
While local administration and village councils have courageously opened temporary, narrow bypasses for light motor vehicles, these unpaved diversions are highly hazardous under ongoing rains. They cannot sustain heavy vehicles, leaving commercial transport stranded and placing commuters at grave risk of further land slips.
Unstable hill slopes and clogged drainage systems along the damaged points pose an ongoing hazard to nearby habitations, agricultural land, and commuters. Delay in execution will result in compounding structural degradation that will cost significantly more to repair if left unattended through the rest of the monsoon season.
Sir, the immediate restoration of NH-2 is not merely a matter of public infrastructure repair, but a critical imperative for safety, disaster response, and economic survival for thousands of citizens across the region.
