EMIS also holds digital records of more than 22,000 teaching and non-teaching staff

Nagaland has launched a new digital education system that brings together records of more than 1,800 government schools, one lakh students and 22,000 teaching and non-teaching staff.

Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio launched the Education Management Information System (EMIS) during the State’s 80th Independence Day celebration at the Nagaland Civil Secretariat Plaza on Saturday.

The system is designed to collect, manage and analyse educational data and provide the School Education Department with a centralised database for planning, monitoring and decision-making.

According to the State Government, EMIS currently contains information on more than 1,800 government schools and personal information of over one lakh government school students. It also has fully digitised records of more than 22,000 teaching and non-teaching staff.

The system will maintain a single record of a student’s journey from pre-primary to Class 12, while teachers will have digital access to their service records and professional development information.

The Government said the system is intended to reduce dependence on fragmented records, improve resource allocation and enable real-time reporting across the school education sector.

It is also expected to provide the department with more reliable data for monitoring schools and making decisions on education infrastructure, staffing and other requirements.
