A District Development Coordination and Monitoring Committee (DISHA) meeting was held at the Deputy Commissioner’s Hall, Zunheboto, under the chairmanship of Lok Sabha MP S Supongmeren Jamir. MLA Dr Sukhato A. Sema, DISHA member, Deputy Commissioner and Member Secretary Dharam Raj, IAS, and heads of offices and departmental officials attended the meeting.

Addressing the gathering, Jamir stressed the importance of officers remaining at their respective places of posting and working with dedication for the welfare and development of the district. He urged departmental heads to go beyond their routine responsibilities when necessary to address issues affecting the people.
Jamir said officers should exercise the authority entrusted to them responsibly and in the larger interest of the district. He also noted that the purpose of DISHA meetings would be undermined if departmental heads were unavailable at their places of posting and called for greater accessibility and responsiveness to public needs.
Dr Sema said his participation was aimed at reviewing the implementation of key Central government schemes and assessing development programmes at the grassroots level. He emphasised coordination among elected representatives, the district administration and government departments for effective implementation and improved public service delivery.
Sema also raised the issue of an Food Corporation of India (FCI) godown constructed in the district at an estimated cost of Rs 20 crore. He said the project was sanctioned by the Government of India and the sanctioned amount had reportedly been fully drawn. He urged the Deputy Commissioner to look into the matter and ensure the facility is effectively utilised for its intended purpose and benefits the people.
The Deputy Commissioner, in his welcome address, highlighted DISHA’s role in reviewing, coordinating and monitoring development programmes and Central government schemes. He stressed the need for effective inter-departmental coordination to ensure benefits reach intended beneficiaries.
The meeting reviewed departmental activities and implementation of various schemes. Presentations were made by Assistant Labour Commissioner Tali, District Agriculture Officer and Veterinary Officer Dr Vikato H Ayeni on activities of their respective departments in the district.
The meeting concluded with a call for greater accountability, coordination and commitment towards inclusive and sustainable development in Zunheboto.
MP visits landslide-affected area in Zunheboto
Zunheboto, 20 August: Lok Sabha MP S. Supongmeren Jamir, along with Deputy Commissioner Dharam Raj, IAS, and other officials, inspected the landslide-affected area along National Highway-702A at New Colony, Zunheboto, on August 20.
During the visit, Jamir interacted with families affected by the landslide and took stock of the situation and the difficulties faced by residents. He assured the affected families of extending all possible assistance and support.
The MP also inspected the affected stretch of the highway and discussed the situation with the accompanying officials. He emphasised the need for appropriate measures to address the situation and ensure the safety of affected residents and commuters.
