Preparations have been finalised in Dimapur for the nationwide “Khelo India Samvaad, Khel Ki Baat PM Ke Saath”, scheduled for August 27, with the initiative focusing on grassroots sports infrastructure and youth participation.
District Youth Officer (DYO), Dimapur, K. Manikanta, said the programme would help assess existing grassroots sports facilities, identify areas requiring improvement and contribute to a model action plan for strengthening sports infrastructure. He said additional capital and external funding for infrastructure development are expected from the following year.
The initiative aims to promote sports among youth and contribute to India’s target of securing 36 Olympic medals at the 2036 Olympics. Pranab College, Regional Institute of Management College and Technical College have been selected to participate in Dimapur.
The programme will include felicitation of local sports achievers, including medal winners and sportspersons who have secured government employment or high rankings through sporting achievements. A dedicated session on sports careers will also allow youth to interact with local athletes and coaches.
NSS Programme Officers from institutions across Dimapur, Chumoukedima and Niuland districts have coordinated student mobilisation. Physical posters and digital banners have been launched at participating institutions, while students will be encouraged to access the MY Bharat portal through campus QR codes and submit suggestions for India’s 2036 Olympic roadmap.
The participating colleges have arranged auditoriums and digital projection facilities for the nationwide live-stream from 2 p.m. on August 27. The organisers said the programme would provide direct engagement with youth while helping identify infrastructure gaps and strengthen efforts to nurture sporting talent.
