Four injured after Christ King School, Angangba, Longkhim group meets with accident while travelling to Mopungchuket
A study tour of Christ King School, Angangba Village, Longkhim, Tuensang, turned tragic on August 26, Wednesday morning when the bus carrying students and teachers overturned near a bridge on the Chare-Mokokchung road. The group was en route to Mopungchuket Village in Mokokchung. One bus attendant was killed on the spot and four others were injured.
The accident occurred at around 6:20–6:30 a.m., according to a teacher who was travelling with the group.
Talking to MT, the teacher said there were 22 people in the bus, comprising 15 students, four teachers, one sister, the driver and the bus attendant.
He said the bus overturned near a bridge, shattering its windows. Following the accident, a Bolero travelling along the route stopped and helped transport the injured to Lenjem Hospital in Mokokchung.
The teacher said some of the injured sustained head injuries, while others suffered injuries to their arms, elbows and shoulders.
Dr Imsu of Lemjen Hospital said four persons were brought to the hospital following the accident. One of them sustained serious injuries, including a ruptured spleen and internal bleeding, and was referred to Kohima for further treatment and surgery.
He said the other patients sustained comparatively minor injuries, with one suffering injuries to the face and back.
Dr Imsu said the timely intervention and the hospital’s proximity to the accident site helped ensure that the injured received immediate medical attention.
Those with minor injuries were subsequently discharged, while the seriously injured patient was referred to Kohima for further treatment.
MCTS condoles
The Mopungchuket Community Tourism Society (MCTS) has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic accident and the loss of the bus attendant.
In a condolence message, the MCTS extended its deepest condolences to the bereaved family and loved ones of the deceased. It also expressed concern for the injured students, teachers and others affected by the accident, and prayed for their speedy and complete recovery.
The society said it stands in solidarity with Christ King School, the affected families and everyone impacted by the tragedy. It also prayed for strength and comfort for the bereaved family and for the departed soul to rest in peace.
