Mokokchung, 16 September: Fazl Ali College (FAC), Mokokchung, organised a farewell programme on September 16 in honour of Dr Tsukjemchila Imchen, Associate Professor and Head of the Department of Geography, who is retiring after 33 years of teaching service.
The programme acknowledged her contribution to higher education and the college. She was recognised as the first woman officer appointed to the Department of Geography in Nagaland, the first woman in the state to earn a PhD in Geography and the first to retire from the department after a 33-year teaching career.
Principal Dr I Wati Imchen described her as a “key pillar” of the college and highlighted her contribution to its development. He stressed the importance of continuing to utilise the intellectual resources of retiring officers, saying a teacher’s role does not end with retirement.
Dr Temjensangla Pongener, Associate Professor and Head of the Geography Department, highlighted the expansion of the department library, strengthening of the Cartographic Laboratory, development of the Remote Sensing Laboratory and installation of a Mini Soil Laboratory during Dr Tsukjemchila’s tenure.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Tsukjemchila called for the introduction of postgraduate programmes at FAC and urged faculty members to pursue innovation and a multidisciplinary approach to education.
The programme was attended by faculty, non-teaching staff and students.
