The National Service Scheme (NSS), Nagaland University, Kohima Campus, in collaboration with the Lions Club of Kohima, organised a tree plantation drive on the university campus on Thursday as part of Swachhata Hi Seva 2026.

Held under the theme “Ek Ped Ma Ke Naam”, the programme focused on environmental conservation and responsible tree plantation. The Lions Club of Kohima donated 200 saplings for the drive.
Prof. N. Venuh, Pro Vice Chancellor, Nagaland University, Kohima Campus, attended as special guest and stressed the importance of tree planting for a greener and healthier environment. He also urged participants to select tree species that enrich the soil rather than adversely affecting its quality.
Lion Er. Talitemsu Jamir, President of the Lions Club of Kohima, described the event as the organisation’s first collaboration with Nagaland University. He highlighted the club’s work in disaster assistance, environmental protection, citizenship and community welfare, and expressed interest in further collaboration with the university.
Lion Max Menuse-O, Secretary of the club and a former NSS volunteer, encouraged students to channel their energy into socially beneficial activities.
The programme was chaired by NSS Programme Officer Er. Shanchamo Yanthan, with Dr. Rashmi delivering the welcome address and Dr. Ratan Kaurinta the vote of thanks.
University officials, Lions Club representatives, NSS volunteers and students participated in the plantation drive.
