The Naga People’s Front (NPF) has appealed to the Yimkhiung and Tikhir communities to exercise restraint and refrain from violence amid reported tensions between the two communities in Eastern Nagaland.

In a statement issued by its Press Bureau at the party’s Central Headquarters in Kohima, the NPF expressed concern over the situation and called on the Yimkhiung Tribal Council and Tikhir Tribal Council to engage in dialogue through customary laws and traditional practices.

The party also urged the district administrations of Shamator and Kiphire to take necessary measures to maintain law and order, protect lives and property, and facilitate a peaceful resolution.

Emphasising the need for Naga unity and tribal brotherhood, the NPF said any conflict between the two communities would affect the wider Naga family and cause suffering to innocent villagers.

It maintained that violence would only lead to insecurity and division, stressing that dialogue, rather than confrontation, was the way forward.

The party reaffirmed its commitment to peace, unity and brotherhood and appealed to both communities to avoid provocation and work towards a peaceful resolution.
