Council welcomes peace talks between AM faction and Myanmar’s peacemaking committee

The Central Nagaland Tribes Council (CNTC) has urged the Government of India and the NSCN-K (AM) faction to initiate a formal ceasefire, citing recent peace talks between the group and Myanmar’s National Solidarity and Peacemaking Negotiation Committee (NSPNC).

In a statement issued by its media cell, the CNTC welcomed the formal peace talks and signing of a record of discussions between the NSCN-K (AM) delegation and the NSPNC in Nay Pyi Taw, Myanmar, on October 22, 2026.

The council said the development offered an opportunity for similar engagement between the Indian government and the AM faction, and called on both sides to enter into a formal ceasefire agreement.

According to the CNTC, a truce could help reduce armed confrontation, promote regional stability and create conditions for political reconciliation.

The council said decades of conflict had placed a strain on border communities, hindering infrastructure development, trade and public welfare.

It maintained that peaceful engagement, mutual understanding and an end to hostilities were essential for long-term stability and socio-economic progress across Naga-inhabited areas.

The CNTC also stressed that lasting peace required bringing all active groups into constructive dialogue, reiterating its support for genuine peace initiatives.

It urged New Delhi and the NSCN-K (AM) leadership to initiate a ceasefire in the interest of the Naga people.
