Mokokchung, June 10 (MTNews): In what can be termed as a momentous day for the legal fraternity of Nagaland, three major developments shaped the course of the day on Friday. Justice Lanusungkum Jamir was sworn in as a judge of the Gauhati High Court today. He was administered the oath of office and secrecy by Justice N Kotiswar Singh, acting chief Justice of Gauhati High Court.

On the same day in Kohima, Nagaland also got its first Pro Bono Club under the Ministry of Justice and Law, Government of India launched by Kohima Law College. Pro bono publico, usually shortened to pro bono, is a Latin phrase for professional work undertaken voluntarily and without payment. The term typically refers to provision of legal services by legal professionals for people who are unable to afford them.

 

Meanwhile, the Vice President of Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) India and Senior Advocate in the Supreme Court, Dr Pradeep Rai has assured the Kohima Bar Association (KBA) of all support on any official matters in the Supreme Court. Dr Rai made the assurance during a brief interaction with the KBA officials and members, saying that they can approach him for any official matters in the Supreme Court. The Kohima Bar Association led by its president Khriedi Theünuo called on Dr Rai at War Cemetery Kohima Friday afternoon.
