Mokokchung, July 1 (MTNews): A new book titled ‘Educational Philosophy for Transformative Christian Education’ authored by Dr. Moalila Jamir was formally dedicated and released by the Principal of Clark Theological College, Prof. A. Temjen Jamir in a formal function held at Multi-purpose Hall, Clark Theological College, Aolijen Mokokchung on Friday.

An update from CTC said that the main thrust of the book is on “Constructing Transformative Christian Education in our context,” for which the author used educational philosophies of Afro-American Liberation Educationist, Author and Social Activist Bell Hooks and Professor Emerita of Theology and Education, Mary Elizabeth Moore.

 

In her attempt to develop Transformative Christian Education, Dr. Moalila proposes, ‘Contextual Christian Education’, Transformative ‘Objective’, ‘Teaching Method’, ‘Content’ ‘Curriculum’, and ‘Structure’. She also proposes Transformative ‘Theological Teaching’, ‘Pedagogy Beyond Closure’, ‘Resistance Centered Education’, ‘Gender Justice Christian Education’, Role of ‘Learner’ and ‘Educator’, and ‘Relevant Guiding Principles for Transformative Education. In her concluding lines, the author said that, “as an agent of liberation and transformation, the educational ministry must come out of its traditional confinement and set as relevant agenda for the faith community to understand the problems and needs” and that the present book “would undoubtedly liberate the conventional Christian education into a Transformative Christian Education for all.” The book is published by Tribal Development and Communication Centre, Mokokchung.

 

The author, Dr. Moalila Jamir, is a faculty at Clark Theological College in the Department of Christian Ministry (Education). She did her Bachelor of Divinity (B.D) from Clark Theological College, Aolijen, Mokokchung; Master of Theology (M.Th) from Eastern Theological College, Jorhat, Assam and Doctor of Theology (D.Th) from South Asia Theological Research Institute (SATHRI), Senate of Serampore College (University), West Bengal. She is a regular contributor of articles and essays in various academic journals.
