The Parliamentary Committee on Naga Political Issue (PCoNPI) on Saturday at its meeting held at State Banquet Hall, Kohima has resolved to urge upon Prime Minister of India and Union Home Minister to invite NSCN (IM) leaders for an early conclusion and bring about a final solution that is honourable, acceptable and inclusive.
“Since the talks have been concluded officially on 31st October 2019, the Hon’ble Prime Minister and the Hon’ble Union Home Minister are urged upon to invite the NSCN (IM) leaders for an early conclusion,” the Parliamentary Committee stated in its resolution.
The Committee resolved to appeal to the negotiating parties to refer to the competencies as reflected in the Framework Agreement of August 3, 2015 signed between the Government of India and the NSCN (IM), to arrive at a mutually acceptable definition of competencies to resolve this contentious issue at the earliest.
The 4-point resolution of the Parliamentary Committee on the Naga Political Issue was appended by CM Neiphiu Rio, Deputy CM Y Patton, UDA Chairman TR Zeliang and Leader of NPFLP Kuzholuzo Neinu.
The Parliamentary Committee welcomed the “positive initiatives” being taken by the Government of India and the Working Committee of the Naga National Political Groups (NNPGs) in regard to the on-going peace dialogue between the two. The Committee also appreciated and welcomed the efforts made by the Naga political groups in taking the talks forward.
“The Parliamentary Committee, while welcoming the statements and observations made by various organisations and individuals calling for unity and early solution, appeals to all sections to refrain from making statements that may create misunderstanding and disunity, and that may stand in the way of our common and collective endeavour to achieve genuine and lasting peace,” stated the resolution.
Stating that the Parliamentary Committee is not a party to the Naga political negotiations, it reiterated its role as a facilitator, representing and reflecting the voice of the people. “This role will continue to be pursued in a serious manner,” it asserted.
“We stand by the commitments of the constituent political parties as reflected in their respective manifestoes to pave way in the event of a political solution being arrived at,” the resolution concluded.
