The Municipal Affairs Department of the Government of Nagaland has written back to the presidents of Association of Kohima Municipal Ward Panchayat (AKMWP), the Dimapur Urban Council Chairmen Federation (DUCCF) and the All Ward Union Mokokchung Town (AWUMT) seeking clarification on “the particular Sections, Clause(s) that infringes Article 371(A) of the Indian Constitution” in reference to a memorandum written by the three organization on “further amendment of the Nagaland Municipal Council Act 2001.” The three organizations have been requested to furnish the details in writing.
It may be recalled that the three urban organizations have on July 22 written to the Chief Minister of Nagaland to amend the Nagaland Municipal Act 2001 by deleting “those sections/clause(s) that infringes social, customary and traditional practices of the Nagas” before any ULB election is conducted. However, the specific sections or clauses were not mentioned in their letter.
