From the very formation of the present government, the process itself went against democratic norms by declaring an opposition-less government under the pretext of working toward a Naga political solution. What was meant to be a united effort for peace and progress has instead turned into a continuous cycle of political convenience. The elected members of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) merged with the NDPP, and now the NDPP has decided to merge with the NPF Among the present elected members, some are now preparing to merge twice within the same political fold. Such actions are not acts of leadership- they are acts of opportunism. Leaders who change loyalties for personal or political gain cannot claim to represent the true will of the people.

Even before the official merger with the NPF, registration activities are reportedly being carried out in NDPP offices across various districts. Such premature actions reflects serious disregard for due process, discipline, and the democratic sanctity of political institutions.

The citizens of Nagaland had placed their trust in the ruling government with the hope of transparent and responsible governance. However, repeated instances of political manoeuvring and power consolidation have eroded public confidence. The focus appears to have shifted from governance and accountability to political calculations and personal interests, leaving the common people disillusioned and weary.

Equally disheartening is the prevailing state of affairs within the Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC), Some members who had contested with the Congress party ticket, won the election, and later merged with other parties- leaving their Congress legislative seats empty- have now returned to the same fold once again. It raises serious questions why did the present NPCC president reappoint such individuals into the party? Can a party, with its current leadership and team, truly rebuild credibility and hope to form a government in the next election? The action of these members appear highly fishy, and the NPCC’s handling of the situation raises the perception that they are no different from the state government they oppose. Such conduct not only undermines the moral authority of the party but also conveys a message of instability, inconsistency, and a lack of ideological conviction.

This recurring pattern of defection and re-entry-by both ruling and opposition members alike- has left the citizens questioning the sincerity of our political leadership Whom should the people trust when political allegiance is treated as a matter of conveniences?

It is time for both the ruling coalition and the Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) to undertake honest introspection Leadership must be guided by principles, not personal ambitions. Political parties exist to serve the people, not to satisfy the shifting loyalties of a few individuals.

Nagaland deserves better-leaders who remain steadfast in their commitments, uphold the dignity of public service, and restore faith in the democratic system. The time has come for genuine accountability, transparency, and integrity in our political life. Anything less will be a betrayal of the people’s trust and the future of our state.
