A glimpse at how the Chakhroma Public Organization is preparing for 150 years

As the Chakhroma Public Organization (CPO) approaches its 150th anniversary, preparations are in full swing to celebrate the milestone later this year. A key event leading up to the anniversary is a one-day seminar, scheduled for September 28, 2024, at the CPO Hall in Chümoukedima. The seminar will address a variety of pressing issues facing the Naga community, as part of the organization’s larger commemoration plan.

The seminar will bring together experts and public figures to discuss topics relevant to the well-being of Naga society. Key themes include Concerns facing the Naga Society, Fire Safety, Legal Rights and Responsibilities, Traffic Safety, and Food Safety. These issues reflect the CPO’s commitment to addressing both immediate and long-term challenges within the community.

Prominent speakers include Kevithuto Sophie, IPS, Commissioner of Police, Dimapur, who will open the event with a session on societal challenges. Other speakers include Kenny Khing, Fire Prevention and Audit Officer, and Guwahati High Court Kohima Bench & President, High Court Bar Association, Kohima, Nagaland, Adv CT Jamir, who will discuss legal rights and responsibilities.

Meren Chenth, NPS DCP Traffic, will discuss traffic rules, highlighting the importance of road safety in the region. Additionally, Kezhangulie Yimchunger, Designated Officer for Food Safety under the Health & Family Welfare department, will address food safety, providing essential guidelines to ensure community health.

The seminar will also serve as a platform to reinforce ties within the community. Special guest Zhaleo Rio, IAS (Retd), Advisor for Urban Development and Municipal Affairs, will inaugurate the event, with participation from Angami Village Councils, Chakhroma Women Organization, Youth Organization, Students’ Union, and other key groups.

A photography session for all attendees will be held after lunch, and the group photos will be featured in a commemorative souvenir that the CPO plans to release during the anniversary celebration.
