(Extract from the 50th Commissioning Message of the Graduates of Clark Theological College, April 12, 2025)

It is with deep joy and profound gratitude that I share this message, originally delivered at the 50th Graduation and Commissioning Ceremony of Clark Theological College. On such a significant occasion, we celebrate not only a crucial milestone in the lives of these graduates but also pause to reflect on the goodness and faithfulness of God.

I now extend this message to our broader community, for the principles it holds transcend the walls of an academic institution. They are truths that encourage each of us on our life journey, regardless of our individual paths.

First and foremost, we give thanks to God, who has been our help and guide. His unfailing faithfulness has brought us to this point, and it is His hand that will continue to lead us into the future. Today is not merely the conclusion of academic pursuits; it is a testimony to God’s steadfast presence in the lives of each graduate.

Throughout your time at Clark Theological College, you have studied diligently, wrestled with questions of faith and ministry, prayed earnestly through seasons of challenge and triumph, and trusted in God’s providence at every step. And now, as you stand at the threshold of a new chapter, we give thanks again for His guiding hand that has never let you go.

However, let us remember an important truth: graduation is not the end of the journey. It is, in fact, the beginning of a new and greater one. While your time as students has come to a close, your calling to serve God and His people has only just begun.

As you step into the world – into churches, communities, mission fields, classrooms, and beyond – may you carry with you these three enduring principles that were shared during the commissioning: Serve to Glorify God, Stand Firm in Truth and Integrity, and Serve People with Love while Depending on the Holy Spirit.

Serve to Glorify God, Not for Position or Title
In 1 Corinthians 10:31 (ESV), the Apostle Paul reminds us, “So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.” This simple yet profound verse forms the foundation for Christian living and ministry. It is a call to ensure that everything we do—whether in small tasks or great responsibilities – is done with the aim of glorifying God.

In the journey ahead, there will be temptations to seek recognition, position, and titles. These may not be wrong in themselves, but they must never become our ultimate goal. The purpose of
ministry is not personal success or the accumulation of accolades. Ministry is about pointing people to Jesus Christ and exalting His name above all else.

As Pastor John Piper wisely said, “Don’t serve God if it doesn’t glorify Him.” These words challenge us to constantly evaluate our motivations. Ask yourself each day, “Am I doing this for the glory of God or for my own recognition?”

Your calling is not limited to standing behind a pulpit or holding leadership titles. It is found in the everyday, faithful acts of service – preaching the Word, teaching the Scriptures, visiting the sick, comforting the grieving, leading worship, mentoring the young, and walking alongside those searching for hope. In all these, let your aim be singular: to glorify God.

When you keep God’s glory at the center of your heart and actions, you will not be swayed by the allure of fame or the pursuit of human praise. Instead, you will remain grounded, humbly serving in obedience to the One who called you.

Stand Firm in Truth and Integrity
The second principle calls us to stand firm in truth and integrity. The world we live in is fraught with compromises and shifting values. As ministers and servants of God, you are called to be unwavering in your commitment to biblical truth.

The apostle Paul exhorted Timothy in 2 Timothy 4:2 (NIV), “Preach the word; be prepared in season and out of season; correct, rebuke and encourage – with great patience and careful instruction.”

Truth and integrity must be the bedrock of your ministry. You will face situations where truth is inconvenient or even unpopular. You may encounter pressures to dilute the gospel to appease cultural trends or avoid conflict. But remember, you are not called to be people-pleasers; you are called to be truth-bearers.

Your life and conduct should reflect the gospel you preach. Integrity is not merely about public appearance but about private faithfulness. What you say from the pulpit must align with how you live your life every day. Let your words be matched by your actions so that your ministry will be marked by authenticity and trustworthiness.

Serve People with Love while Depending on the Holy Spirit
Lastly, serve people with genuine love, always relying on the guidance and empowerment of the Holy Spirit. Ministry is people-centered, and without love, our efforts become hollow.

As 1 Corinthians 13:1 reminds us, “If I speak in the tongues of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal.” Love is the heartbeat of effective
ministry. Love the people God entrusts to your care, regardless of their background or circumstances. Serve them with compassion, patience, and humility.

At the same time, remember that you cannot do this in your own strength. Ministry is demanding, and burnout is real. Therefore, rely daily on the Holy Spirit to sustain you. Seek His wisdom in decision-making, His power in your preaching and teaching, and His comfort in times of discouragement.

It is the Holy Spirit who equips and empowers you for the work ahead. Trust in His leading, and you will find strength for every task and grace for every challenge.

As I conclude, let me once again express my heartfelt congratulations to the graduating class of 2025. You are not just receiving certificates and degrees; you are being sent out as ambassadors of Christ, entrusted with the sacred task of serving God and His people.

Carry the lessons you have learned at Clark Theological College close to your heart. Remain faithful to your calling, keep your eyes fixed on Jesus, and may your life and ministry continually bring glory to His name.

Dear Graduates, the road ahead may not always be easy, but it is filled with purpose. Go forward with courage. Stand firm in truth. Serve with love and humility. And above all, seek to glorify God in everything you do. Congratulations once again! May the Lord bless you and use you powerfully for His glory.
