Having grown up in Kumlong ward of Mokokchung Town, Yimmere Jamir, of Ungma village, is no stranger when it comes to the type of education imparted to the students.

On completing his Bachelor’s degree from Kohima Science College, Jotsoma, with Physics, Mathematics and Statistics, as his general subjects, unlike many of his other fellow graduates, he embarked upon a journey to fulfill his passionate dream of empowering youngsters with quality education.

Keeping the societal norm of ‘chasing after Government jobs’ as his secondary option, and driven by the understanding that, ‘Marks are just random numbers,’ in 2021, Yimmere Jamir set up a tutorial center, ‘Modern abcd Tutorial Center’, below NETTEC computers, Arkong ward. The objective of the tutorial center is to encourage children in taking a deeper dive into the practicality of the subjects.

Understanding the depressing state of the current educational system in the state and concerned about the unemployment escalation, he believes that unless education is emphasized more on skills and practicality, there isn’t much hope for our society.

“My main objective is to impart quality education in the best way I can and make sure that the students find joy in what they are learning,” he said.
Sharing about his approach towards students, he said, he is “rather a friend than a teacher” and every session consists of ‘group study’ rather than the conventional way of ‘teach and listen’.
“I actually act myself like a student with them; that’s the only way I can fit in and connect better with them,” he added.

Another feature that makes him proud of ‘Modern abcd Tutorial Center’ is their ability to provide the students with easy accessibility to mentors and to their mentorship program in terms of career guidance from resourceful persons in various fields.

Speaking about the challenges he faced, he admitted it was difficult initially because of the constraints in financial resources. Moreover, his family advised him to apply for competitive examinations, which made him doubt his goals. However, his determination to uplift private sectors and create small scale employment for interested people pushed him to further pursue his goal.

“It’s not like I don’t want a government job, but it’s also important to understand that the Government cannot provide job to each and every individual of the state or the country,” he elucidated.
After suffering a huge financial loss during the lockdown, ‘Modern abcd Tutorial Center,’ has started its admission process for the new batches of classes 10-12 students from the second week of this month. The tutoring center offers a concession of “Free Admission” for the economically weaker children with strong potentials. The classes shall commence from the 7th of March, at three in the evening.

Students’ feedbacks

“Classes have been so worthwhile. The tutor has an amazing way of breaking things down. He helps us understand things more easily while keeping it light and fun. He is patient and supportive, but really knows how to motivate his students. He is great at building confidence and provides a very safe and supportive learning environment.”

“I’m very pleased with the education I’m receiving at the coaching center. I’ve improved a lot since I joined the coaching center and I’m happy that my skills are developing day by day. It is really a great platform for science stream as per my experience. At the beginning, when I started off with my classes, my parents were worried about how I would manage the new science concept but today, my parents are relieved that I am a student of ‘Modern abc’. We all think that I’m getting the best education and they really appreciate the efforts of my teacher. It is clear that my skills have developed considerably under his care. I’m very grateful to have Sir. Ayim as my mentor.”
