A seminar on the primary prevention of intoxication for the Associate Pastor of Christian Education Ministry (APCEM) of ABAM’s Zones 1–5 was held from August 28 to 29, 2025, under the theme ”Smart Path-Finder” (Jeretperet Lenwar) Psalms 119:5. The program was organized by the ABAM Education and Literature Ministry.

Addressing the growing concern of substance abuse among children and youth, the seminar aimed to equip church leaders in understanding and responding to the issue. A total of 46 APCEM, representing 46 churches, took part in the two-day session.

Maong Jamir, Secretary, Finance & Property, ABAM, served as the resource person. He stated that “if the full-time workers of the church are educated about substance abuse, the incidence of this issue will likely decrease.” His sessions covered topics including substance use disorders, levels of prevention, the cycle of addiction, brain function and substance use, relapse as a brain disease, and withdrawal symptoms. He urged APCEM members to lead a generation that would not grow up with feelings of regret.

Rev Temsû Jamir, Executive Secretary of ABAM, in his message, encouraged the APCEM to be open to learning, unlearning, and relearning. Stressing the importance of understanding one’s calling, he said, “Your calling helps you better understand God’s plans. Equip yourself by understanding the worldview of each child in your ministry.” He further called on church leaders to move beyond a conservative mindset, practice honesty, and focus on igniting curiosity and creativity rather than filling children with information.

The seminar concluded with a call for strengthening Christian disciplines while preparing leaders to guide the younger generation away from the dangers of substance abuse.
