Mokokchung, September 24 (MTNews): The public of Akhoya village, Changtongya village and Changtongya town on Saturday held a silent public procession in protest against the abduction of a construction engineer by “unknown persons” on September 21, which followed by a public meeting and submission of a representation to the district administration. All vehicular movement along NH-02 that passes through Changtongya town was restricted till the conclusion of the public rally.

The public represented by Chairman, Akhoya Village Council; Chairman, Changtongya Village Council; and Chairman, All Ward Union Changtongya Town in their letter addressed to the SDOC, Changtongya Sub-Division demanded the early release of the abducted engineer and “prompt follow-up necessary action.”

 

“On hearing the news of the abduction, the three public organizations had issued a demand notice to the abductor through various media to release the abducted person within a day. However it is regretted that the abducted official is not released till today i.e. 24th Sept. 2022,” the letter read.

 

It may be mentioned that unidentified persons, reportedly cadres of the NSCN-K (YA), abducted Ramakhant Giri, a Senior Supervisor of Nithin Sai Construction Pvt Ltd on September 21, 2022 from Changtongya town. The Nitin Sai Company is currently engaged in Changtongya-Longleng road construction works.

 

The three organizations also requested that all machinery of the government be used for the safe release of the abducted person. It was also demanded that “those anti-social elements be booked under the appropriate section of law, so as such undesirable incidents do not occur in the near future.”

 

Ao Senden, meanwhile, has condemned the abduction of Ramakhant Giri by the NSCN-K (YA) and has demanded his safe release, unharmed and at the earliest. Ao Senden also stated in a press release on Saturday that it will stand with the Langpangkong Tzükong Mungdang and the Langpangkong Tzükong Road Coordination Committee on the matter till the end.

 

It is learnt that the Nithin Sai Construction Pvt Ltd have ceased all work in protest against the abduction and has written to the Deputy Commissioner of Mokokchung about the same.

 

Langpangkong Tzükong Mungdang is also learnt to have met the Ao Senden on the matter on Saturday seeking the apex body’s intervention.

 

It may be recalled that the government of India has withdrawn AFSPA from Changtongya sub-division from April of this year while NSCN-K (YA) is not in ceasefire with the government of India.
