Abu Metha and AR Rahman discuss music industry development in Nagaland

Abu Metha, Advisor to the Chief Minister of Nagaland and Chairman of the Investment & Development Authority of Nagaland (IDAN), held a meeting with music legend Dr AR Rahman in Chennai today. The meeting, according to a DIPR report, aimed at exploring strategies for the development of the music industry in Nagaland and the northeastern region, was also attended by Theja Meru, Chairman of TAFMA (Task Force for Music and Arts), who accompanied Metha.

Before their meeting, the officials paid a visit to the KM College of Music & Technology in Chennai, it was reported.

 

During their meeting, Metha and Rahman discussed various roadmaps and strategies for the development of the music industry in Nagaland and the northeastern region. They focused on ongoing projects, programs, and potential future collaborations with Rahman and his institutions.

Metha expressed his deep appreciation on behalf of the State Government and Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio for Dr Rahman’s active involvement in various music promotion and mentorship programs in Nagaland. He acknowledged Dr Rahman’s significant contributions, which began after his visit to Nagaland in 2019 as the Chief Guest of the Hornbill Festival. Inspired by the experience, Dr. Rahman initiated a mentorship program for musicians from the Kohima Orphanage & Destitute Home, bringing them under his renowned Sunshine Orchestra.

 

Continuing his mentorship, Dr Rahman took members of the Sunshine Orchestra from Nagaland to Chennai earlier this year to perform at an international concert in collaboration with the British Council.

 

The Chief Minister’s Music Scholarship program was also discussed during the meeting. This program offers selected candidates an opportunity to undergo a customized professional course at the prestigious KM College of Music & Technology. Known for its esteemed international faculty, the college is recognized as one of Asia’s leading music institutions.

 

Rahman’s involvement in mentoring and producing audio-video promotional productions that highlight Nagaland and its musicians was commended by Metha. He expressed his gratitude for Rahman’s voluntary contributions to the music industry in Nagaland, emphasizing that his dedication and support have positively impacted numerous lives and are symbolic of a gesture towards nation-building.

Dr AR Rahman, a recipient of the Oscar and Grammy Awards, is known for his mentorship in several international projects and partnerships with countries and institutions worldwide. He led the music and entertainment of the World Expo in Dubai and established his trademark studio there. Additionally, he is a film producer and leads various music and film studios.

 

During their visit to the KM College of Music & Technology, Metha interacted with the faculty and management to gather feedback on the Chief Minister’s Music Scholarship program. This exchange of ideas and insights will help further enhance the program’s effectiveness.

 

The Nagaland officials also explored prospects for future collaborations and partnerships that can contribute to the growth and development of the music industry in Nagaland.
