The Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) has extended its congratulations to Abu Metha, the party’s Secretary General, Advisor to the Chief Minister, and Vice-President of the Athletics Federation of India (AFI), on his appointment as the Co-Chairman of the AFI Modernization Committee for the year 2025–26.
“This is indeed a proud moment for the NDPP and the people of Nagaland for one of our own to have been given this honor of shouldering such a big responsibility. This once again shows how the top Athletics organization of the country has recognized and is utilizing the talents and capabilities of Mr. Abu Metha,” the NDPP stated in a press communique issued by its Media & Communication Committee.
The party expressed full confidence in Metha’s ability to carry out the responsibilities entrusted to him, noting that he will contribute significantly to the advancement of sports in both India and Nagaland.
The statement added, “The NDPP family wishes our dear SG the very best as he takes on this responsibility, especially one as onerous as the modernization of the AFI, which will indeed be a challenging task.”
Metha’s appointment as Co-Chairman was made by Bahadur Singh Sagoo, President of the Athletics Federation of India.
“In accordance with the Constitution of AFI, various committees have been constituted to support this vision. I am pleased to appoint you as the Co-Chairman of the AFI Modernisation Committee for the period 2025–2026,” Sagoo stated in the appointment letter.
“In consultation with senior members of the Federation, we have deliberated on the various functions of AFI with a shared goal, to bring greater transparency and efficiency to the organization and to accelerate the development of Indian Athletics,” he added.
